Explore the similarities and differences in the way that Text A and Text B use language (20 marks)

Text A, being a modern text, written online, has many differences when compared to text B. The online Metro article uses language such as 'shares', 'viral', and 'trending' to create semantics of technology and modernity. The article itself uses humour "we can't imagine [other sprinters] will let her forget this in a hurry" with 'hurry' being a compound declarative. This suggests that the writers of the article are trying to directly target an audience, trying to make the piece light-hearted and humorous. In Text B however, the layout of the text suggests it is set out like a pamphlet for people to read. The dynamic verbs such as 'drawn', 'issued', and 'celebrated' which are throughout the text create cohesion for the text but suggest that it is written - historical text.

Teacher Comments: You draw on a deal at detail and perception and I'm impressed you are applying your sense of cohesion to this extract too. Use linguistic choices consistently i.e. replace 'vocabulary' with 'lexical choices'
